Two Cats In a Tree - Faux Watercoloring

I absolutely love this card that my ladies made in the Valentine's Day Card Class this week.

The colors are nice and cheery, the sentiment is all warm and fuzzy and the Two Cats stamp is so much fun to use!  Plus, it was a super fun card to make AFTER my initial disaster.  UGH!

The card making process started out positive.  Pretty simple act of stamping the branch onto the white paper with Versa Mark and using black embossing powder to make sure it didn't smear when I was sponging.

Looking pretty good right now, huh?  ORIGINALLY, I used blue Painter's Tape to mask in the 2 inch section where I sponged the background.  I had a BALL sponging in my little background colors.
  1. I started with the Pink Pirouette ink from Stampin' Up
  2. Then I added in some Pear Pizzazz
  3. Finished it with Rose Red
  4. Then I went back over the entire area with the Pink Pirouette to blend all the colors together
  5. I will admit that at this point I did a lot of giggling
  6. Next, I pulled up the Painter's Tape to do the "big reveal"
  7. ...
  8. ...stunned disbelief
  9. ...lots of screaming
  10. ...more swearing
  11. ...took a picture so I could remember why I will never use Painter's Tape again
  12. Posted it to Instagram so I wouldn't be alone in my misery and pain

Do you see the white stuff on the blue tape?  YA!  That would be my paper ripping away with the tape.  THUS, the reason for my screams of frustration.  Not to be thwarted by the evils of Painter's Tape I called in the true hero of the day!

Ta Da!!!!   3M Removable Labeling Tape!  Talk about a DREAM!

I repeated the above steps until I hit #7 that is when my life changed!

7. Peel back 3M Removable Labeling Tape
8. Did LOTS of happy dancing with my feet
9. Giggled more
10. Took a picture of my success
11. Posted it IG
12. Giggled some more
13. Got back to business!
14. Took the paper into the kitchen....stay with me, this is where it gets cool!
15. I got the tips of my fingers wet in the sink
16. Then I flicked water onto the paper and concentrated it onto the colored areas that I sponged
17. If you noticed the little white circles on the above image, THAT is from actual water drops

Pretty snappy, huh??!

After all of the silliness, I decided I wanted to use some of the stamps from the Happiness Is...series.  The way the card was sectioned it left the perfect amount of room to really make the sentiments pop.

  • I inked the Happiness Is... stamp with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and stamped it in the upper left hand corner above the branch
  • Then I inked Morning With You and stamped it into the lower right hand corner
  • This gave the card balance and it was ready to finish

I layered the white paper onto the black and placed Dimensionals on the back side of the black to give it more depth and then adhered it to the Rose Red card base.  As pretty as it was, I felt it needed a few little pieces of bling.

I initially played around with Lettuce and Watermelon Skittles, but since this was for a class I decided on using our Lettuce Sequins instead.

Definitely happy with how the whole card turned out!!!!
