Introducing Marco, Polo and Pluto!

I absolutely LOVE my Design Team!  To say we didn't have a fun time would be the understatement of the century.  The laughs, the silliness, Justine schooling me on grammatical and spelling errors...ya, I got into all sorts of trouble this weekend and my head is hung in shame.  BUT the feeling definitely did not last long, because Jennifer and I somehow segued from my spelling error to poor Pluto being pulled from the planetary line up and that brought us both sadness.  (I still have a tear rolling down my cheek.)  Just because the solar system doesn't want little Pluto, doesn't mean WE don't!

In the midst of our little silliness, I felt the need to name a few of our new little sea critters, so before we do the formal introduction of the NEW Pluto, let me first have the extreme pleasure of showing some love to Marco and Polo!

Marco
Isn't Marco just the cutest little sea turtle?  I just loved coloring this little guy and can't wait to put him on a card one of these days!  You can't see it real well in this picture, but I put a little Wink of Stella on his shell and it is so sparkly pretty!  (In a manly sort of way, of course!)

We can't have a Marco without a Polo so I felt it quite fitting that our sea turtle needed to have a seahorse as his BFF!

Polo
To be honest, Polo has been with me since last August and when I finally got around to coloring him in November I knew I had found some sea critter love!  Do you know how HARD it was to NOT release these guys back in the winter and spring time?  I finally had enough and couldn't wait until August, thus Christmas by the Sea was born and I didn't have to wait anymore!  I can tell you that there were a few VERY happy people when I finally released them.  (You are welcome, Chandler and Nanette!)  Although, Rachel did threaten my very life when she was unable to obtain a prized Polo when we ran out of the first batch of stamps, but I am happy to report Rachel now has a Polo of her own and the threats have stopped!  Woo hoo!!!!!

Now that we have met Marco and Polo, what do you say we move onto Pluto!?!

Pluto!
Pluto may be a little guy in the sky, but out here in So Suzy Land he is a great big happy octopus!  To be honest, he wasn't really my favorite, but now...OMG!  Cuteness!!!!

I couldn't help but stamp him with the Angel Pink Memento ink to do a bit of no-line coloring with my Copics onto my Copic blending paper.

For Pluto I used V05, V06 and V09.  After I finished coloring him, I added a few tiny dots to some of the areas I wanted to really add some depth to.  Then I squirted a bit of Blending Fluid onto an old rag and dabbed him a bit to give him that textured look.

I then did some major fussy cutting and took my V06 marker and went around the edges so no white areas were popping through.

Since I wanted him to really pop on the card, I put some foam tape behind him so when I finally decided where to place him he would be ready to go!

For the background I cut another piece of my Copic paper to fit a 2nd layer size of 3-3/4" x 5".

I wanted to have some sand on the ocean floor and since I just received in the Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Border dies, I decided to use them to create a nifty ocean floor effect.

I cut them out using Bazzil Peanut Cluster paper and then inked them up with VersaMark directly from the pad and sprinkled Ice Embossing Powder from Stampin' Up and heat set it.  Voila!  Instant sand without any mess!

To add the Sea Plants I set the highest of my sand onto the white paper and lined up the sea plant where I wanted them to go.  Since I was keeping with the no-line coloring, I made sure and stamped the sea plant with the Angel Pink Memento ink.

I randomly started placing sea plants making sure I had different heights.  I then colored them in using YG05, YG07 and YG17.

Our Warm Sunshine stamp was the perfect sentiment to go with our little ocean card and I totally lucked out that it fit PERFECTLY onto the card without a single plant getting in the way.  Talk about lucky!  I used Memento's Gray Flannel ink to stamp the sentiment in the upper right hand corner of the white paper.

Once I laid everything out onto the paper, I thought it looked a little blah and it just needed a little something extra to bring it altogether.  I found my little starfish and inked him up with Bahama Blue and popped him next to a sea plant!  Once the card was totally put together, I did go in and add Glossy Accents to the starfish to give him a bit of shiny dimension!

Now that I was happy with all of the goodies, I started putting the card together.  I taped the larger of the sandy ocean floor to the white paper and then placed foam tape on the back of the smaller piece and adhered it to the card.  Now I have a super cool ocean floor!

I removed the foam tape backing from Pluto and adhered him to the front of the card as well.

I taped the white paper to a first layer of Bazzil Flinstone paper - 4" x 5-1/4"

There was a lot of foam tape already on the card, but I just couldn't stop myself...I had to put more onto the back of the Flinstone paper.  It just looks so stinking cool how could I not, right?

Bazzil's Plum Pudding Dotted Swiss paper was a PERFECT match for the Copic V05, V06 and V09 combo so I totally made that the card color.  It isn't the heaviest paper in the world and I typically won't make it a card backing, but adding the extra weight to the inside of the card definitely helped give it a "backbone" so I was quite pleased with the results!

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen; Marco, Polo and Pluto!

Please be sure and give them a bit of love, especially since poor Pluto is always getting the short end of the stick!  :)

Until next time,
Happy Stamping!
