Feeling Beachy

With all of that white stuff falling from the sky, I could use some sunshine, warm sun, a slight breeze and my flip flops!  Chris Dayton is back on the blog today with a couple of fabulous coastal cards!

I wanted to create a fun salt-weathered beach shack.

  • I stamped three of the new January release stamps with Memento Tuxedo Black on 80# Hammermill Digital Color Copy Cover paper.
  • I sketched in some woodgrain with a gray Copic .03mm MultiLiner, then added some color with W1, 3 & 5 and B41 &45 Copics.
  • Other Copics used are, E31, 33, 42 and 70 for the sand; B12 for the lightly airbrushed sky; R12, 14, & 17 for the life ring.
  • The surf board was colored with V20, 12 & 15, BG11,13, &15 and Y11,15, and 17 for the surf flag.
  • I also added some beach grasses with a Sepia Copic Multiliner before trimming the card front with a stitched rectangle die (Lawn Fawn) and then adhered it to a bright turquoise card base.

  • This is a 5" x 4 1/4" shaker card.
  • I stamped the surfboards in Memento Tuxedo Black then colored them with Copics: E000, YG61, YG63, YR02, YR14, V04, V06, Y35, Y38, B34, B37, YG13, W1 and the sand in E33 and E35.
  • I assembled the shaker using a stitched circle die (My Favorite Things), and 3M foam tape and added a mix of peach, gold and seaglass colored sequins before sealing it up.
  • I stamped the Hola! sentiment on a small banner strip in New Leaf green ink (PTI).
  • The Spring Bloom 1 flower is stamped on white cardstock using Red Sangria ink (The Ton).
  • I added some shading to the centers of the flowers with Copics RV17, RV19 & also Y32.
  • The two flowers were fussy cut and added to the sentiment strip.

  • The background is sponged on watercolor paper with Distress Inks: Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Tea Dye.
  • I then removed color for the waves by using a waterbrush and a dry paper towel to lift the color away.
  • The sentiment and the image is stamped directly on the watercolor paper with Brutus Monroe Locomotive chalk ink.
  • I drew in the posts for the clothes line with a Copic Black Multi Liner, then filled it in with a Mid Gray Zig Brush marker.
  • The swim suits were stamped on scraps of patterned papers and fussy cut, then adhered to the background with Glossy Accents.
  • I used an embossing pen and Zing Brown Sugar embossing powder to create the clothespins.

  1. Three gorgeous cards. The layouts and colours are fabulous. What a fun card the shaker card is? Great paper piecing on the third card and clever technique with the water. Thank you for the inspiration x
